Hi, I'm Matthew
I'm a San Antonio-based photographer with an obsession for light in all its forms — the warm scrape of golden hour across a bride's dress, the hard shadow of a hawk passing overhead, the faint glow of a galaxy you can barely see with your eyes.
I started MJR Image to keep two halves of my work under one roof: the client work that documents the most important days in people's lives, and the personal fine art work that keeps my eye sharp and my heart in it. The landscapes teach me patience. The weddings teach me presence. Both make me better at the other.
My wife, Rocío, shoots alongside me on wedding days, and watching her fall in love with the same light I chase is half the reason I still love this job. She sees the moments I'd walk right past — and somehow, after all these years, she still makes me want to be better behind the camera than I was the day before.
When I'm not behind the camera, you'll find me somewhere in the Hill Country with a thermos of bad coffee, waiting for the sky to do something worth a shutter click.
